There are 4 main layers, the crust, mantle, outer core, and inner core
Today, we will be learning about convection. we will be going into the volcano that will give us access to see the Earth's layer
Wow that's so cool, I'm so excited. How many layers of the Earth are there?
First up is the crust. it is the thinnest layer of the Earth. the crust is broken up into 2 section. The continental crust and oceanic crust
Tectonic plates are pieces of the Earth's crust
What are tectonic plates?
Tectonic plates are massive slabs of rocks that are ALL over the Earth
Below the crust is the mantle, the largest layer of the Earth. It is also where convection current occur
Heat rises from deep inside the mantle, while the cooler material in the mantle sinks
When a substance is hot, particles moves faster than it would when it's cold . Hot substance are also denser than cold substance
wait so why does heat rise and cooler air sinks?
because of a process call convection
Lastly is the Earth's core. It is the heat source of the Earth, The heat comes from the core, which is then transferred into the mantle where convection occur
The core can be up to 9000 degrees F
How hot is the core?
That will conclude the trip. hopefully you guys know a bit more about convection now
