- Ibarra is dead!!!
- Elias helped him escape the prison to visit Maria Clara, who learned that Padre Damaso was his birth father through her mother's letters.
- Ibarra and Elias escaped through a boat. Elias concealed him and leaped into the water as their enemies attacked them to draw the pursuers away from the boat. The guards rained shots on him, all the while not knowing that they were aiming at the wrong man.
- Upon learning of the reported death of Ibarra in the chase on the Lake, Maria Clara became depressed and entered the nunnery.
- The badly injured Elias met Basilio in the forest next to his dead mother, who had been driven to insanity due to the disappearance of her two sons, who were falsely accused of stealing from the convent.
- Basilio, who was ignorant of Elias's identity, helped him build a funeral pyre, on which his corpse and the madwoman were to be burned.
