- Maya never listens to me. I am just trying to protect her.
- WHY IS OUR RELATIONSHIP SO COMPLICATED???
- Why doesn't my mom understand things aren't the same as they were when she was my age?
- Maya, go put some longer pants on. We have men coming over.
- I shouldn't have to change because of a man! If they are weird they should not be in our house!
- I just want to protect Maya from the same trauma I faced. I hope she understands.
- Do as I say. Now!
- Why is my mother always so hard on me? It's so draining, and makes me feel sad.
- Maya I need you to cook dinner tonight because I have to work late.
- Why do I always have to cook dinner, mom? Why can't my older brother do it? I feel like you put so pressure on me, and it's starting to affect me mentally.
- I'm sorry Maya. I just want to protect you, and teach you what my mother taught me. It's a new time though, I should listen more. We can start to learn from each other.
