  • King Aegeus wanted to protect his wife and his unborn child from his dangerous enemies, so he brought his family to their home in southern Greece where they could be safer. He was upset that he couldn’t meet his son though, so he put a special sword and pair of shoes in a cave, and covered the entrance with a heavy boulder. He told his wife to send their child to the cave when he was strong enough. If he succeeded to move the boulder, he should come to Athens, where he can claim King Midas as a father.
