Storyboard Text

  • The Proclamation of 1763 made it illegal for colonists to move into the land that was won in the 7 years war.
  • The first Intolerable Act closed the port of Boston. The colonists couldn't even bring in hay for their horses.
  • The Stamp Act was a tax on all forms of paper that helped the British to pay for the French and Indian War.
  • The Townshend Acts were a series of laws taxing paper, lead, tea, glass, and paint. They also established a place to collect taxes in America and courts without local juries to prosecute smugglers. They also gave British soldiers the right to search American homes.
  • The Tea Act of 1773 removed all of the taxes imposed in the Townshend Act except for the tea. Needless to say, the colonists were not happy, and this sparked the Boston Tea Party.
  • The Quartering Act said that colonists had to provide housing and food for British soldiers.
