Charles IIHere in England, sovereignty is defined by the Parliamentary Monarchy.
Therefore, it is defined by a balance in power between the Parliament and the Ruler...
... unlike my cousin Louis XIV in France
adaptability and relinquishment of power To prevent what happened to my predecessor (Charles I)
The mechanisms I use to preserve my power are
allowing Parliament to have control over taxation
and The Commonwealth of England as a political structure
Meanwhile, Louis XIV simply assumed absolute power through the "Divine Right of Kings"
Institutions that are representative of English sovereignty include:The CrownParliament (France does NOT have one)and the Church of England
I allowed for certain religious freedom... Unlike Louis XIV who strongly imposed Catholicism, making me a more socially open-minded ruler.
I must always consult the Parliament, for example when I entered England into the War of Spanish Succession.
International consequence
I make radical decisions without any control, for example when I forced the nobility to reside at my palace.
England's focus on balance and control of power is effective through the meticulousness of our political processes.
I am bound to make a huge mistake because of the lack of control and restrictions on my absolute political power.
