  • I can't wait until we start trading for furs!
  • Mahhh, we are now in charge of the Cherokee!
  • We are now breaking our promise!
  • 30 years before the French and Indian War, French Fur Traders moved into South Carolina. The British signed a treaty with the Cherokee saying that the Cherokee could not trade with the French.
  • Let's take the British settlers' horses!
  • The Cherokee thought that they were friends on equal terms with the British. On the other hand, the British thought that they were now in charge of the Cherokee.
  • We are now taking all Cherokee peace representatives as hostages!
  • This peace between the Cherokee and the British lasted for about 30 years. Unfortunately, this peace was broken during the French and Indian War. As allies the Cherokee expected the British to protect them. Although, the Cherokee thought highly of the British, the British failed to protect the Cherokee when the French and their Indian allies attacked.
  • This is our side! You all stay on your side, and we'll stay on ours.
  • The Cherokee warriors, felt cheated and betrayed by the British, so the Cherokee warriors decided to take possession of the settlers' horses. The British settlers decided to attack, and the Cherokee retaliated.
  • The royal governor of South Carolina tried to control the Cherokee. The royal governor decided to stop all trade and took Cherokee peace representatives as hostages.
  • The Cherokee War lasted for about two years and it resulted in many deaths among the Cherokee. There was a treaty that ended the French and Indian War, which forced the Cherokee to give up most of their land, and they also decided to create a boundary dividing South Carolina and the Cherokee territory.
