William Brewster wrote Mayflower Compact on November 21 1620
The Mayflower Compact created laws for Mayflower Pilgrims and non-Pilgrims alike for the good of their new colony. But those few words expressed the idea of self-government for the first time in the New World.
It was a short document which established that: the colonists would remain loyal subjects to King James, despite their need for self-governance.

Finally, as the first written constitution in the New World, the Mayflower Compact laid the foundations for two other revolutionary documents: the Declaration of Independence, which stated that governments derive their powers “from the consent of the governed,” and the Constitution.
