Justinian was a very powerful and effective ruler. He also worked hard to settle the differences of opinion that divided the early church.
Lots of times Justinian helped people and the army as he reformed Byzantine government to improve efficiency and get rid of corruption. Some other things were how he made major improvements in the areas of government, construction and law.
Like Rome, Constantinople relied on resources from outside the city for its survival. Lots of people from the west went to Constantinople because of the sea. But for many poor conditions lots of poor people lied on the government handouts of bread, but not that much of people were poor at Constantinople.
When the old Roman empire divided, the cultures of its eastern and western empires developed very differently, and lots of stuff was going horrible . In the east, the emperor was seen as god's representative on Earth. The emperor had a great deal of influence over the church and its leader patriarch.
Later another major clash was over icons, images of Jesus and the saints. Many Christians had icons, and some began to pray to them. Some other stuff was how in the west, the pope rebuked the emperor and condemned the destruction of the icons.
When the Byzantine Empire started the Empires achievements were extraordinary. One reason why because those achievements was the empire's location at the crossroads. Later on when Constantinople came The Constantinople and the Byzantine Empire grew rich on a trade. The city also attracted people all parts of the world.
