2. Revolution Begins and a National Assembly, 1789
No more absolute monarchy!

3. Constitutional Monarchy, 1789-1792
People are storming Bastille and peasants are attacking homes!
The National Assembly adopted something called the Declaration of Rights of Man and of the Citizen France is now a constitutional monarchy!!!
Once upon a time, in France, Due to the French governments financial crisis in result of bad crops and the 3rd estate angry about rising prices of bread. King Louis XVI was forced to call a meeting made up of three estates. Through voting by order, each estate voted to represent their entire estate. This represented a step away from democracy because after the meeting King, he went back to his own ways.
4. The First French Republic and the Reign of Terror, 1792-95
He's a traitor! Off with his head!
Later, on the 20th of June 1789, the National assembly met in a tennis court and pledged "not to separate and to reassemble wherever circumstances require, until the constitution of the kingdom is established," Their pledge was successful and Constitution 1789 was born creating a constitutional monarchy. This was a step towards democracy because people had began breaking away from absolute monarchy and coming together as one.
5. Napoleon and French Empire, 1799-1814

But then, King Louis XVI began gathering troops. People stormed Bastille (French prison) to get gunpowder. Riots broke out and peasants began attacking homes of the nobles. National Assembly adopts the Declaration of Rights of Man and of the Citizen.(1791) France became a constitutional monarchy and the gov't would receive power from the people, not the king.
6. Congress of Vienna and Peace, 1814-15
Many countries have gained new territory during these wars, such as Russia with Belgium
After the First French Republic was established, the Reign of Terror began. The Reign of Terror was a dark and brutal time period in which a man named Robespierre ordered execution at the guillotine of anyone who did not support the revolution. This event was a step away from democracy because the rest of society didn't get a say and conflicts were handled in a very unfair manner.

Next, Napoleon quickly rose through military ranks throughout the revolution, he achieved political power in France, Due to Napoleons military success and reforms such as, controlling prices, setting up public schools, inspiring new industries etc. He crowned himself emperor in 1804. The rise of Napoleon represented a step closer to democracy because it spread the idea of Nationalism through Europe.
Finally, the allied forces of Europe meet and attempt to put back the trouble Napoleon caused for Europe. Five Months after Napoleon first abdication and completed its "final act" in June 1815, shortly before the Waterloo campaign and the final defeat of Napoleon
We need to create peace in Europe War has been to frequent
We need the return of traditional monarchs
