Storyboard Text

  • Sure! But... how does it happen? How is fire generated?
  • Ready, we have fire for the night! The rest of the groups will envy us, trust me!
  • So, it is all due to combustion, a chemical reaction. A chemical ceaction is a chemical change caused by the combination of two or more substances, forming a new substance.
  • The combination of energetic molecules with oxygen derives to carbon dioxide and water. The chemical reaction of those two, ends in fire!
  • Oh cool! But, are all combinations the same, or they can vary?
  • They can vary: there are two types of combinations. In Ionic bonds, the bond is caused by an attraction between two atoms, as one has transered one or more electrons to the other. It usually happens between a metal and a non-metal.
  • Wow! And the other one?
  • The other bond, Covalent bond, is the attraction between two atoms as they are both sharing electrons. This happens between non-metals. And, remember Carbon Dioxide and water? Both of them are products of Covalent bonds!
  • Thanks for telling me!
  • Thanks to you, we'll win the camping competition. You know the way to victory!
  • You're welcome!
