  • 1.) Mr. Hawes: An event that occurred after the Boston Massacre could be the passing of the Tea Act on May 10, 1773. Does anyone know anything about that?
  • 3.) Abby: Also, The purpose of this was to force the colonists to order tea from this company, when it received all control of tea trade and delivery, trade through the company, and use their ships. The colonists also had to pay the tax that was placed on the tea, which in total would help the British Parliament economically, as they needed money.
  • 2.) Theodosia: The Tea Act was imposed by the British Parliament, in order to allow the East India Tea Company to ship its tea directly to the colonies without it first landing in England.
  • Mr. Hawes: Correct, and this Tea Act caused the Boston Tea Party, which occurred on December 16, 1773. It was part of the protesting for tax on tea, which was taxation without representation. The Boston colonists were not happy about this new taxation, so some of them disguised themselves as Mohawk people in order to board ships and eventually dump £10,000 worth of tea into the Boston Harbor.

  • Mr. Hawes: Another major event on this timeline, that occurred after the Boston Tea Party, was the passing of The Intolerable Acts. They were imposed by the British Parliament as a result for the resistance from the colonists towards British rule. These acts, also known as the Coercive Acts, consisted of the Boston Port Act, Massachusetts Government Act, Administration of Justice Act, and the Quartering Act. These acts resulted in the colonists forming the First Continental Congress in 1774. Can someone please explain what that was.

  • Vanessa: The First Continental Congress took place on September 5, 1774, in response to the Intolerable Acts, to get together and create an opposition to the taxation. It took place in Philadelphia, where fifty-six delegates were there to represent each colony, except for Georgia.
  • Mr. Hawes: Nice Description. Now, the last event that we will be going over in this timeline, that came after the First Continental Congress, is Paul Revere's Ride and the Battles of Lexington and Concord. Paul Revere’s Ride is the name of the event where Paul Rever rode from Charlestown to Lexington on April 18, 1775 in order to warn everyone that the British were coming from Boston to take control of the colonial armory at Concord. The British ended up coming and fought, creating the Battles of Lexington and Concord, starting with the “first shot heard around the world.” This resulted in a win for the Americans while the British had retreated. These battles were the start of the Revolutionary War, where the colonists from the Thirteen Colonies in North America continue to oppose and fight back against Great Britain's Control.
