The tension seems to be rising between the colonists and Britain. The colonists believe that they are capable on their own, but Britain is not convinced that the colonies can handle things by themselves.

The American militia is a poorly trained and a disorderly army. They did not contribute troops, supplies, or money to the war effort.
The colonists are completely riled up about the stamp tax, and it is unlikely Britain will end with just this one tax. Now the competition is going to divert to the colonists and Britain.
