- I was in Hazell's Wood, poaching!
- This is Hazell's Wood, where most of the story takes place. The characters are Danny, Sergeant Samways, Mrs. Clipstone, Mr. Victor Hazell, Doc Spencer, Mrs. Spencer, and Danny's dad.

- Are you alright dad?
- It is 11:10 p.m., and Danny's dad has disappeared. Danny is starting to worry.
- Rising Event #4
- We could drug the birds using the sleeping pills!
- Danny's dad returns a few hours later and explains he was in Hazell's Wood, poaching pheasants. He says he shouldn't have done it and was sorry, but he was yearning to go. He promises Danny that if he goes back, he will tell him beforehand.
- Huh??
- One day, Danny's dad told Danny that he would go poaching. He said he would be back at 10:00 p.m., but it was already 2 a.m. and he still hadn't returned. So, Danny goes to look for him in Hazell's Wood, finds him in a pit with a broken ankle, and helps him get back home so he can see Doc Spencer.
- Yes, but I think I broke my ankle.
- Danny's dad wants revenge on Mr. Hazell for putting traps in Hazell's Wood, so he and Danny form a plan to sabotage Mr. Hazell's shooting party. They use the sleeping pills that Doc Spencer left for Danny's dad and plan to drug the pheasants.
