  • In chapter 1, Ponyboy was jumped by a few Socs. The Socs attack Ponyboy with a switchblade. This is a violent scene.
  • Darry hit Ponyboy in chapter 4. Ponyboy stayed out late hanging out with Cherry and Johnny. Darry gets really mad and ends up hitting Ponyboy. Since Darry hit Ponyboy, Ponyboy ran away. This scene is violent.
  • Johnny kills Bob in chapter 4. Bob almost kills Ponyboy so Johnny steps in and kills Bob in self defense. This scene is one of the most violent scenes in the book.
  • Johnny dies after saving kids from a church fire in chapter 10. Johnny died a gallant death. He saved many children and even Ponyboy. Johnny sadly died from a spinal injury which made this scene violent.
  • Dally robs a store and gets shot after hearing that Johnny is dead. This happens in chapter 10. Dally is devastated. In his grief, he decides to pull an unloaded gun on a police officer after robbing a store and gets himself killed. This relates to the theme: Violence, because Dally gets killed.
  • There is a rumble in chapter 9. The Socs are upset about how Bob died. They decide to fight with no weapons and only their bodies. The greasers win after the Socs start to lose and run away. This scene is violent because everyone got hurt.
