  • The Battles of Lexington and Concord, began the start of the Revolutionary War. The start of the Revolutionary War, begins to create divisions between the Loyalists supporting the British and the Patriots supporting independence, who now have to decide what side they will be with.
  • The Treaty of Paris
  • By July 1775, moderates in Congress draft the Olive Branch Petition, asking the king to restore peace. The King then rejects the petition and sends British Navy to block American Ships from leaving ports.
  • The Costs of the War
  • A series of smaller battles have been fought between the British and Americans, Americans have lost every single battle. On October 1777 the Battle of Sara toga happened. The European nations decided to help Americans in its struggle for independence.
  • A Change in ideas
  • The Treaty of Paris officially ended the Revolutionary War. The United States then became independent. Its boundaries would be the Mississippi River on the West Canada on the north and Spanish Florida on the south.
  • An estimated 25,700 Americans died in the war, 1,400 remained missing, 8,200 were wounded, and thousands of Loyalist lost their property. And those who survived the war left the army with little or no money. National debt of $27 million.
  • The American Revolution wasn't just a war, but a change in ideas about government. Before the war Americans demanded their rights as English citizens, that idea replaced with the idea of republicanism.
