I have a test in Science class, and I have no clue what the 3 variables are!
Oh, I can help you! First things first, the three variables are the independent, dependent and control variable.
The indepndent varibale would be the circumference of the plasticine ball, because how far the plasticine ball rolls down the ramp is dependent on the circumference of the ball.
In short the independent variable is the cause of or reason for a certain outcome. The dependent variable is the variable that is being tested or measured.
For example, if we were to do an a experiment... Does the circumference of a plasticine ball affect how far the ball rolls down a ramp?
In our experiment, some Control variables would be: The circumference of the ball, the colour of the ball, the angle of the ramp. Basically the control variables are what you can change.
The Control variable is something that you hold constant in your experiment.
Yay!
Now, we are going to do an experiment!
Ya you got it! Also the dependent variable is measured by measuring the distance of how far the ball rolls down the ramp this is dependent on the circumference of the ball.
I think I understand now, the independent variable in our experiment would be the circumference of the plastine ball, and the dependent variable is the distance the ball rolls down the ramp. And one of the control variables is the angle of the ramp.
Thanks for teaching me all about the different varibles and their roles in a science experiment. Now I'm not nervous for my test anymore!
The different variables are very importamt in a science experiment because they make the experiment easier to understand. They also make sure that the experiment is fair and that the outcome is correct.
