On August 12th the US and Spain had an argument called a splendid little war it lasted 15 weeks. it was decided the US had the right to annex the Philippines.

Some felt that the treaty violated the Declaration of Independence. on Febuary 6th, 1899 the annexation question was settled with the senates approval of the treaty of paris.
