  • I wonder if your family was full of freaks!
  • Rising Action, Verbal Irony, Dramatic Irony
  • As the carnival in Italy starts, my voice drowns out in the crowd. "Fortunato, what is your favorite wine?" my friend, Montresor, asks loudly. Me and Montresor have been friends for a while. Even though our friendship has been going strong for years, there has been a big secret I wish I would not need to keep from him.
  • Climax
  • When I was born, I did not originally look like a guy. That's right, I am transgender. Montresor had always been more closed minded of the idea of people who are like me. It hurt me greatly and we got into many fights. I would always continue to hang out with him though, as he is a good man and I had hope that one day I would be able to change his mind, but we got into another heated argument this night. I hope this does not affect our friendship.
  • Falling Action
  • Shortly after, Montresor invited me into his catacombs to taste some of his wine. I questioned this idea since it was suspicious, but I did not want to leave Montresor after a bad conversation. I wanted to forget that any of this happened at all and I got to drink some wine as a bonus. He told me that no matter what, he would never hurt me after a small quarrel. I still think that he will change his views and we will hang out together for many years after this hurdle.
  • Resolution, Situational Irony
  • We wandered through the dungeon for around an hour or two. "Fortunato, the wine you have been searching for, the Amontillado, is in there," Montresor states, pointing at the small doorway. "Of course, Montresor! The wine I had was delicious so far. Thank you," I exclaimed, walking towards the Amontillado. I could feel a cold stare aimed at me as I took my final steps.
  • I pick up the wine and took a sip. "Yes, Montresor! This is some fine wine indeed! Let us rejoice after our fight with wine and peace!" I plead. I turn back and he had chained me up. He pulled stones from under the bones and started to build a wall with care. He started to joyously laugh at my face as I stood in shock helplessly. I could not bring myself to talk as he finished up the wall.
  • I stood in my grave reflecting on what would have happened if I had spoke. If I had told him my secret, what would he had done? Now knowing who he really is, he would have thrown a torch inside my new home. Did he really do this because we thought differently, or was it something else? I could smell the wine in the dark, reminding myself of what a fool I was to get lured in by him. My name means fortune, yet I never gained any. I will never rest in peace.
