- In the beginning, a lusty knight comes across a beautiful maiden. He is overcome by his sexual desires and rapes the innocent woman to please himself.
- The knight is sentenced to death for his crime, but King Arthur's queen asks to grant him a chance to save his own life. The queen simply asks the knight to venture to find what women desire most.
- The knight sets out to find his answer for the queen, but he becomes distraught when every woman he meets replies to the question with a different answer. The knight must find his answer within a year of his visit with the queen, and he begins to run out of time.
- The knight was close to giving up on his journey when he discovered a group of women dancing and decided he was going to try to find his answer for the final time. He was surprised to find that there was only an old woman among the disappeared group of women, but the woman claimed to know the answer to the knight's question.
- The knight returns to the queen with the old woman's answer, and he is granted his life as he answered correctly that women want power over their husbands. As a result, the knight must marry the old hag to repay her for saving his life.
- The old woman gives the knight the choice to be young and unfaithful or old and loyal. The knight replies that he trusts her judgment, and the woman becomes a beautiful woman once again. In the end, the two live happily together with their children.
