In 1294, Kublai Khan died, and after that a wave of weak emperors came to help. Mongol power in China began to weaken, and problems increased for the Yuan dynasty. During that time, many officials stole from the treasure and became very wealthy.
Arts And Literature
In 1368, a Military officer named Zhu Yuanzhang became emperor. He reunited the country and set up his capital in Nanjing, in Southern China. As emperor, Zhu took the name Hong Wu, or the Military Emperor, he brought peace and order, but was also a harsh leader.
Chinese Exploration
The Ming emperors needed the government officials to carry out their decisions. Then, they had to make sure that officials took their jobs seriously because the emperors brought back the civil service examinations. And lastly, they had to have years of practice because the tests were extremely hard.
The Fall Of The Ming
As the arts flourished across the Ming dynasty, newly and wealthy merchants and artisans wanted entertainment and could afford printed books and trips to the movie theaters. During this period they also produced novels, or long fictional stories. Many novels then were written in vernacular, or everyday language.
Ming emperors built a large fleet of ships called junks, usually traveling along the coast of China. The ships could also sail on the open sea. Lastly, between 1405 and 1433, the Ming emperors sent the Chinese fleet on 7 overseas voyages.
After a long journey of growth, the Ming dynasty began to weaken. Dishonest people took over the country. And they also taxed heavily on farmers.
