The Germans are told to begin "phase one" of this battle. They bomb coastal ports and ships.
They then begin to perform raids across Britain.
The Germans started to attack the towns and people later that month.
The Germans came through in an attempt to wipe out Britain's air force to take the coast.
August, 1940
In this part of the battle alone, there were one-hundred and seventy five RAF aircraft lost, and three hundred and twenty two Luftwaffe plane losses.
On the twentieth August Winston Churchill made his famous speech to parliament.
