- We have the authority to search your ship without your permission!
- British ships would attack and capture American trader ships. Soldiers would then capture soldiers and force them to work on British ships.
- The British supplied Native American tribes with weapons to encourage them to fight the Americans. Tecumseh also began unifying all the Native American tribes to fight together.
- Along with the impressment of soldiers, British ships would stop and search ships for anything that could aid the French.
- On August 24, 1814, British soldiers set fire to Washington D.C. Both the Capital and the White House burned, and Dolley Madison even saved some artifacts!
- The War of 1812 officially comes to an end on December 24, 1814, with the Treaty of Ghent. Even though there is no clear winner, Britain promises they won’t keep searching U.S. ships and America proves it can protect its independence.
- Even though the war had officially stopped 2 weeks earlier, Andrew Jackson defeated the British at the Battle of New Orleans on January 8, 1815, with only 71 casualties while the British had over 2000. This battle would pave the road for Jackson's presidency later on.
