- My name is Robert Hooke. I was born in 1635 London, England. I founded the word cell.
- I took a slice of a cork and put it under the microscope. I found what looked like monk cells. This is where I got the word cell.
- My name is Theodor Schwann. This is my friend Matthias Schleiden. We both played important roles in the cell theory.
- My name is Matthias Schleiden and I am a botanist. I discovered that all plants are made of cells.
- My name is Theodor Schwann. I came to the conclusion that all animals were made of cells.
- In 1838 Schwann and Schleiden developed the "cell theory." Schwann went on and published his monograph Microscopic Researches into Accordance in the Structure and Growth of Animals and Plants in 1839.
