- Travis is a determined young boy who is trying to take care of his family and make his dad proud.
- old yeller is a human loving dog who is willing to do anything to protect little arliss and travis.
- little Arliss is a fun and adventure loving boy who has a lot of energy and loves animals.
- mama is a loving mama who takes care of her family
- The setting is a old and rustic home were a small family lives and tries to survive the summer when there is rabies going around and there are a bunch of dangerous hogs but because they have a dog that protects them they are doing ok..
- one of the main scenes is when travis gets hog cut and his leg gets cut to the bone so he can barely walk but old yeller saves him and almost dies in the proccess.
- after he got hog cut he had to lay in bed with old yeller to heal.
- hydrophobia (rabies) makes its way around were travis lives and old yeller gets bitten by a wolf with rabies so travis has to shoot him then travis gets depressed.
- in the end travis is okay and his dad comes home he even starts to like the speckled puppy.
