  • Montezuma heard of the Spanish landing on the coast so he sent emissaries with gifts.
  • The first meeting between Cortes and Muctuzma.
  • welcome to my city come with me let me show you around
  • Cortes was planing to conquer the Aztec empire but did not know how because he only had 500 men so he had to gather allies that will help him defeat the Aztec so the Spanish had to sail to Tenochtitlan it took 8 months to get there.
  • massacre of the unarmed aztec
  • the tlaxlans attacked the Spanish, but Cortés held them off with guns and steel armour.The Tlaxcalans then decided it was in their best interests to make an alliance with the Spanish. They agreed to join forces with Cortés to defeat the Aztec. the Cholula also agreed to defeat the Aztecs

  • The first time Cortes and Moctuzma met. before they met cortes sent a message saying to moctuzma that he was coming in peace. Moctuzma addresed cortes as a god.

  • Cortes received a message that Velazquez sent men to arrest him. cortes had to leave tenochtitlan to stop them. he left pedro de alvarado in charge. Aztecs began preparing for a festival in the main temple court yard than Alvarado and his men surrounded the courtyard and massacred the unarmed worshipers. the Aztecs were outraged
  • Cortes told Montezuma to tell his people to go in peace with the Spanish and the Aztec people got mad and threw stones at Montezuma until he died. the Spanish tried to escape from Tenochtitlan in the middle of the night to make their way to the coast, but the Aztec discovered them crossing the causeways and attacked. The Aztec attacked the Spanish from all sides, even from canoes in the water. Many of the Spanish were carrying stolen gold and could not move quickly because of the added weight. Unwilling to give up the gold, many were quickly killed or drowned. Several — 700 Spanish and 2000 to 3000 Tlaxcalans — were killed.
