- Finally I have achieved my father's dream...
- Alexander was a young Macedonian king, who became one of the greatest generals in history.
- He was an experienced military leader who at the age of 20 continued his father's vision of advancing eastward to the Persian empire and beyond.
- He conquered the early Persian Empire which was known for having large palaces and gardens. Alexander conquered the area stretching from Greece to India in the east and Egypt to the south. He won so many battles that historians refer to him as Alexander the Great.
- "I have defeated your army, so how should I treat you?"
- "Treat me as a king would treat another king."
- Alexander's army, the Macedonian phalanx were a group of soldiers who fought close to each other using long spears called pikes. It was like the military technology of those times.
- During his rule trade routes expanded making China accessible to civilizations in the west. He was interested in the area around the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Gulf and so he sent ships to investigate the coast and people of India.
- When asked by Alexander how he wished to be treated, Porus replied "Treat me as a king would treat another king". Impressed, Alexander indeed treated him like a king, allowing him to retain his lands.
