Parvana is the breadwinner of the house. In the beginning Parvana was afraid to speak up to the Taliban. In the middle of the story Parvana decides that she will become a boy for her family. In the end Parvana is hopeful and she feels more independent.

In the beginning Nooria was always grumpy and bossy. She acts like she is superior. But near the end of the story she takes Parvana's side and doesn't argue with Parvana anymore.
Parvana are you okay?
In the beginning she was sad and depressed that the Taliban arrested her husband for no reason. When Mrs.Weera came she changed her mood and she felt better. Then in the end she goes to Nooria's wedding but she doesn't have as good of a relationship with Nooria anymore.

Mrs.Weera is strong and she is independent. When Mrs. Weera came to Parvana's apartment she was encouraging and understanding. She is very helpful for Parvana's family.
She is caring and loves spending time with Parvana. When the Taliban came to their house they hit Parvana and the mother. When the Taliban left Maryam was the first person to come comfort Parvana.
She use to be one of Parvana's classmates. She had the same idea as Parvana to become a boy. She is a good friend of Parvana's and is very caring. She works with Parvana and she is also that breadwinner of her house.
