  • Amelia Earhart's first ride on a plane was in 1920. It prompted her to take flying lessons and later buy her own plane.
  • Amelia Earhart bought her first plane, a Kinner Airster, in 1921.
  • Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean in 1928.
  •  Amelia Earhart piloted a plane across the Atlantic Ocean  on May 20, 1932. She flew 2,408 miles from Hawaii to California in 1935. Later she also became the first person to fly solo from Los Angeles to Mexico City.
  • Amelia Earhart's last flight was in 1937 with Fred Noonan. They ran out of fuel before getting to their destination. They were believed to be about 100 miles from the island they were headed to.
  • Amelia Earhart was a powerful influence for women and women's rights. She showed that women can be great pilots. In fact, she helped found an organization, the Ninety-nines, in 1929. She became its first president and later she debuted a fashion line which was designed for active women in 1933.
