Storyboard Text
Augustus was born on 23 September 63 BC. He was originally called Gaius Octavius.
Julius Caesar was assassinated and Octavius was named as heir. It happened in 43 BC.
In 31 BC he won the battle of Actium and defeated Antony and Cleopatra.
In 27 BC he changed his name to Augustus. He founded the principate which meant that some other important people also had power.
He transformed buildings and he put his face on coins.
Augustus built an army and there was a big battle in Germany. Sadly his stepson was killed and the battle was lost.
He only had a daughter called Julia and his stepson Tiberius, so Tiberius became the heir.
Things did not go well for Augustus and people became unhappy. He sent one of his poets into exile for saying mean things.
He died on 19 August. Some people thought his wife, called Livia, poisoned him.
