- Theodora was the wife of Justinian I who was emperor. She ruled by his side and her intelligence was an advantage to the Empire. Theodora was important because she helped with woman's rights and she changed laws about divorce to give more benefits to women.

- Justinian's code is the legal code of ancient Rome that was created by Justinian. Justinian's code is very similar to modern laws in most countries today.

- The Byzantine Empire preserved greek and roman ideas for about a thousand years after the fall of the Roman Empire in the west. The Eastern half preserved it until it was invaded and taken over. Roman laws and the culture and science of the greeks were preserved because it defined their society.
- The people of the Byzantine Empire used the Greek and Roman Ideas for things such as architecture (used the columns like the greeks did).
- Reasons for the decline in the Byzantine Empire were the failing military system, economy, unity, and government

- The main reason that really caused the decline of the Byzantine Empire is when the Ottoman Turks invaded, conquered and made it their own.
