I've been thinking about building a new palace. This place is too small.
The country of France was split into 3 different groups. The 1st Estate was the Clergymen, 2nd was Noblemen and the 3rd Estate was peasants and everyone else.
3rd
I think the 3rd Estate should be equal to the rest.
1st
I disagree
2nd
So do I.
King Louis XVI and Marie Antionette spent all of the money they got from taxes and could not get out of his debt. They were taxing the 3rd Estate almost half of what they made.
This could get bad if we don't listen to them.
We demand a new constitution. Where we can have a say in anything that you want to do.
The Palace Versailles was built and put France into an even larger debt. On top of that there were bad harvests so the country wasn't making any money. King Louis decided to start taxing the 2nd Estate.
Mmm, this looks wonderful.
At least we can eat something today.
But we don't have any coffee beans left.
The 2nd Estate forced Louis to have a Estates-General meeting to discuss the way that people were getting taxed. The 3rd Estate wanted the freedom of speech, equality and a new constitution, they were outvoted 2-1.
The 3rd Estate was upset about the outcome of the meeting and made themselves the National Assembly. They broke onto a tennis court and took the Tennis Court Oath, which said they would not leave until a new constitution was made.
Ok, but it will take some time to create.
The new constitution didn't fix the starving people. The people of the 3rd Estate couldn't feed their families while the King and Lords ate huge feasts.
