Storyboard Text

  • The cycling of water in and out of the atmosphere is a significant aspect of the weather patterns on Earth.
  • The water cycle describes how water evaporates from the center of the earth, rises into the atmosphere, cools and condenses into rain or snow in clouds, and falls again to the surface as precipitation
  • There are four main stages in the water cycle. They are evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection.
  • Evaporation is when the sun heats up water in rivers or lakes or the ocean and turns it into vapour or steam.
  • Precipitation occurs when so much water has condensed that the air cannot hold it anymore.
  • Convection in the water cycle is when the air near the surface is heated, then rises taking heat with it.
  • If a REALLY freezing cold water bottle with a string inside turns into a snow flake, then I'm going to be a snowflake if this weather gets ANY colder!!
  • We can't drink the salty ocean water, so fortunately for us, freshwater is also stored in lakes, glaciers, snow caps, rivers, and below the ground in groundwater storage. That's collection/storage
