Atticus tells Scout about Tom Robinson's case. He says people will be mean, even her friends. Kids are saying stuff to Scout at school, but she is not fighting them because Atticus doesn't want her to.
Scout punches cousin Francis at Christmas because he calls Atticus a "black person lover." Uncle Jack spanks Scout because Francis says he didn't do anything to her.
Scout tells Uncle Jack about what Francis says but makes him promise not to tell Atticus. Later, Atticus says that Jack doesn't understand kids and that he just needs to be honest with them.
