- Amy's first day in the office...
- Yes, when do I have to go through the Ontario Health and Safety program orientation?
- So that should be everything you need to know to get started! Do you have any questions?
- This is an office job, theres no real hazards anyways!
- Hmm, okay.
- Oh we don't do that here, it's a waste of time.
- Later that day...
- I could've sworn there was a mandatory progra- woah! I almost slipped in that puddle!
- Amy has recently got hired at an office. Her Boss Dan has just introduced her to the basics of her job.
- There's a leak in the ceiling. If the water keeps spreading like this someone is bound to fall. I should file a complaint to my supervisor.
- Amy doesn't understand her rights as a worker. Dan has violated two of her three primary rights by denying her access to a workplace health and safety activity and by not informing her of a known workplace hazard.
- 3 days Later...
- I don't think I'm comfortable working around a physical hazard like that.
- Amy you shouldn't be complaining about little things like that, you just got this job! I can take it away just as quick as I gave it to you.
- Hey Dan, did you get the complaint I sent you a few days ago?
- About the leak? That's been there forever, it's not a problem.
- Amy has discovered a workplace Hazard.
- 1 week later...
- Wow this puddle is getting really b- AHH!
- Amy knows that it is dangerous for her and her colleagues so she decides to report it.
- Dan reveals that he knew about the leak and violates her third basic right by threatening to fire her if she refuses to work.
- As a result of Amy not knowing her rights and Dan being negligent, the workplace hazard has caused an injury. Remember the 3 basic worker's rights:Right to refuse, right to participate in H&S activities, and right to know about dangers in the workplace.
