  • Adolf Hitler became chairman of the Nazi Party. Hitler was able to persuade and incite crowds with his ensnaring charisma. He blamed the Jews for Germany's decline.
  • Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany. A worldwide depression hit the already devastated Germany. Many German people started to listen to Hitler and the Nazi party.

  • Hitler is elected Chancellor of Germany. He dissolved the German legislature, the Reichstag and issued many anti-Jew laws. The Franks left Frankfurt and moved to Amsterdam.
  • Germany invaded Holland. The country was occupied by Nazi soldiers. Jews living there, like the Franks, were persecuted and forced to wear yellow stars to identify them.
  • Germany invaded Poland and started a war to expand its empire.
  • Jews were rounded up and taken away by soldiers in German-occupied countries. The Franks moved into the Secret Annexe.
  • The Gestapo raided the Secret Annexe and the the occupants were captured. The Franks, Van Daans, and Mr. Dussel were sent to camps in Germany.
  • Anne Frank died in Belson, a concentration camp in Germany. The war ended three months later.
