- Korea was finally freed from Japanese control after WW2

- Soviets had settled in the north while Americans occupied the south
- In 1948, after a few years of tension between the North and South. The country was divided at the 38th parallel and was now lead by two different leaders.
- THIS IS BAD!!
- June 25th 1950 the North attacked the South
- The North was successful and defeated the South even capturing Seoul. The last major region remaining was Pusan
- Survival of South Korea was essential to prevent the spread of communism in other countries
