Chapter 7-12 comic strip for The Giver.

Storyboard Text

  • In chapter 7 of The Giver, the ceremonies are happening. During the Ceremony of Twelves, the children are given their assignments. Jonas realizes he's been skipped and was not given an assignment. He was number 19, but the Chief Elder skipped him and went on to number 20. he thought it was a mistake, but the Chief Elder didn't make any mistakes.

  • Chapter 8
  • In chapter 8 of The Giver, Jonas gets called up to the stage by the Chief Elder. She addresses why she skipped him. She then goes on to say that Jonas has been selected as the Receiver of Memory due to the qualities he has. The Receiver of Memory by far was the most honorable job in the community.
  • Jonas, you have been selected to be the Receiver of Memory. That was why I skipped you.
  • Chapter 9
  • Once Jonas was selected as Receiver of Memory, he was handed a folder that contained information about the role in the community. Everyone else's folders were thick and seemed to contain a lot of items. However, Jonas' was very thin. It only contained one sheet of paper with the rules that Jonas had as Receiver of Memory. He's surprised when he finds out that he is allowed to lie as Receiver of Memory.
  • The Receiver of Memory? I can't believe this!
  • Woah! I have all these rights as Receiver of Memory?

  • Why is her hair changing color?
  • In chapter 10 of The Giver, Jonas goes to the House of the Old. The receptionist directs Jonas to the Receiver's room. When he walks in, he notices that the Receiver's room is fancier and has walls filled with books. He meets the Receiver and the Receiver says he will transmit memories from past generations onto Jonas. Jonas is unfamiliar with words like "snow" when the Receiver says he'll transmit the memory of snow.
  • In chapter 11 of The Giver, the Receiver transmits the memory of snow to Jonas. The Receiver places his hands onto Jonas' back and transmits the memory of sliding down a hill on a sleigh on a snowy day. Jonas did not know what "snow" or "downhill" meant. This memory allowed him to experience a new exciting memory.
  • In chapter 12 of The Giver, Jonas was heading back to the House of the Old to meet the Receiver again. While on the way there, he meets with Fiona, and as she's heading into the House of the Old, he notices her hair changing the same way the apple had changed. When he meets the Receiver, the Receiver informs him that he's one minute late, Jonas justifies why he's late and tells the Receiver that Fiona's hair changed. The Receiver tells Jonas that he is now starting to see the color red.
