  • The Battle of Lexington and Concord was the start of the American Revolution. Where African Americans and other soldiers fought to seize the colonists.
  • The Declaration of Independence signed in 1776 explains the separation of colonies from Great Britain and the ideals and goals of our nation.
  • "All men are created equal.."
  • The Battle of Saratoga gave the patriots a morale boost when they took victory defending their home soil. This persuaded the French, Spanish, and Dutch to join their cause.
  • The Valley Forge was a winter encampment of the continental army under General George Washington. Women were known to also cook and clean as the soldiers prepared to become a fighting unit.
  • You are under my command as General.
  • Native Americans were also pulled into the Revolutionary War. As tribes joined the British they hoped they would win and in return stop colonial expansion.
  • Washington won the last major battle of the American Revolution, the Battle of Yorktown. This cemented Washington's leadership and eventual election as first president.
