*Firmly but calmly suggests the student go for a walk to "reset". When student returns: "You have a choice: I can help you with the writing or you can choose to sit there and complete it at lunch.
"NOT HAPPENING!"
(Ignore's comment from student and begins handing out sheet to other kids".
Teacher leaves student to make independant choice. Choices were clear and firm and the student has autonomy.
*rips up sheet when he gets it.
"Why did you just rip that up? Are you feeling frustrated?"
YES, I HATE WRITING"
*No response from student and he puts his head on desk.
After about 5 minutes the student reluctantly approaches desk and asks for help.
