- Christmas is coming up and Della have only a 1.87 left.
- Della been saving up every Penney for months and with a result of 20$ a week. that don"t go so far
- Della was walking by a shop and saw a pier glass that say 8$ and she was brilliantly smiling but her smile had disappear because of the price
- Della saw a red sign and it said i buy all hair goods and Della ask the the lady which is named madame and asked will she buy her hair
- She walked in the house when her husband was standing there and he saw Della hair and he stood there not angry not sad just an expression she couldn't read and she explained why she cut her hair and Jim showed her the present he got her.
- They both looked shocked and then Jim showed Della her present and it was combs but her hair was to short because she cut it for a necklace for a watch that he don't have because he sold it to buy her combs and they both sat and laughed
