  • The battle took place in the Pampa de Quinua or Ayacucho, Peru on December 9, 1824, this battle of Ayacucho began at 9 in the morning. then the forces of Viceroy José de La Serna would have fought against the patriots under the mandate of Antonio José de Sucre.
  • Suddenly the Spanish began the attack from the Condorcunca hill. The Peruvian division commanded by José de La Mar fought to contain them and with the help of Marcelino Carreño's montoneros forced them to retreat.
  • Unfortunately a new realistic attack was repulsed by the division of José María Córdoba. Then, the same viceroy La Serna, entered the combat with his troops, but in the violent clash he fell wounded and was taken prisoner.
  • This demoralized the Spanish, causing many to flee. shocked General José de Canterac tried to regroup them, but they were thwarted by the men of Jacinto Lara and Guillermo Miller.
  • Scared and seeing the disaster, Canterac agreed to negotiate with Sucre and signed the Capitulation of Ayacucho, a document that sealed the Independence of Peru and South America.
  • I believe that the Battle of Ayacucho was the last great confrontation of the Spanish-American wars of independence and meant the definitive end of Spanish administrative rule in South America. achieving a victory that sealed the emancipatory feat of Peru and the American continent.
