Leonce comes home, goes to check on his sons and informs Edna that Raoul is sick she doesn't seem to care and goes back to bed but Leonce instants she gets up critizing her habit of neglecting their children.

Madame Ratignolle is introduced in this chapter as the embodiment of the "mother-women,". Her and Edna are speaking to each other about the candy leonce gave her when Madame Ratignolle says that pregnant women should not eat candy but doesn't say that explicitly.
Robert is known to always be in situations with other women, so when he always wants to talk to Edna, she is not shocked but their relationship was different. Robert treats Edna more like a crush than a friend.
