On August 24, 1814, British forces marched into Washington D.C., and set fire to several key buildings including the White House and the Capitol. Government officials, along with President James Madison had to evacuate the city.
I am president James Madison.
I am Francis Scott Key. And the battle of Ft. McHenry inspired me to write the Star Spangled Banner.
This battle started on Sept. 13, 1814 at the U.S. Ft. McHenry near Baltimore. The American fort that guarded Baltimore Harbor, was bombarded for 27 hours straight. The attack failed, and on the morning of September 14th, the U.S flag still flew above Ft. McHenry. (This inspired Francis Scott Key to write Star Spangled Banner)
Oh say can you see...
On January 8, 1815, the British army invaded the city of New Orleans. Andrew Jackson assembled a last-minute militia that included Native Americans, pirates, freed African Americans, and ordinary citizens to defend the city. Jackson won the battle and became a war hero.
We all fought in this battle.
I am Andrew Jackson, and after the Battle of New Orleans I became a war hero.
