  • hello! we have some furs to trade. do you have irons?
  • yes. lets start the fur trade
  • phase 1: the early fur trade.1500- 1603 french and british fished off the east cost and soon met with the miqmak and and began to  trade with them.
  • phase 2: Expansion Inland. 1603- 1670. the french traded with the first nations around the great lakes and the st. Lawrence river.

  • phase 3: Rival networks. 1670- 1760. Britain made HBC . Britain & France were both trading with the FN. The 2 countries started competing in the fur trade.

  • phase 4: the drive west. 1760- 1821. the NWC and the HBC started competing and they both moved to the west trying to be the ones to get new fur trading territory.
  • let us join the HBC and the NWC into one company.
  • yes! let us call it the hudson bay company
  • phase 5: monopoly in the west. 1821-1870. the british and the french made a agreement and joined the NWC & the HBC into one company and called it the hudson bay company. and traded all across canada
