- As a carbon atom, I play a vital role in balancing the energy and trapping long wave radiation from the sun. Natural processes like respiration and industrial operations like burning fossil fuels release carbon atoms like me into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide, and there is an important cycle that continues, and cannot be disrupted. Existence of life on earth depends on my cycle... First step; We need to find an autotroph or a plant.

- Through a process called photosynthesis, where plants absorb me (the carbon) and water, and use the energy from the sun to form oxygen and glucose. The glucose procides energy for the plants as well as help them make other substances like cellulose (to build cell walls) and starch (seed food source).
- I am then transferred to the animal that consumes the plant and provide energy for the animal, in the form of carbohydrates and proteins!
