  • Men, we are going to form the Nationalist government!
  • 1911 - 1927
  • 1949
  • Men, now we will form the People’s Republic of China
  • 1950
  • I want to be able to control everything, and why, because we have an unlimited government!
  • Ater foreign invasions of their country the Chinese people became very angry, their anger fueled a revolution! The new government could not control the country, so in 1927 a military leader named Chiang Kai-shek formed the Nationalist government!!
  • The late 1950s
  • Mao Zedong, on the other hand, was for a communist government, a system of an unlimited government!! Years of civil war and the Communists won the power, and created the People’s Republic of China! After that, the Nationalists fled to the island of Taiwan and set up the Republic of China!
  • The late 1960s
  • The Communists set up an unlimited government on the mainland. They took control of businesses and industry, and created government-run farms from the small plots of land worked by peasants!
  • 1976
  • The Great Leap Forward was introduced by Mao Zedong. The point of this was to increase China’s industrial output, most people left the fields and began working in factories, because of this, cities grew rapidly! After all this the program failed!!
  • The Great Leap Forward......
  • This was during China’s Cultural Revolution when Mao hoped to get rid of any cultural elements that did not support his idea of communism, so doctors and teachers were ordered to work on farms and students were even taken from school and sent to work on farms!
  • Because of Mao's death, China's communist leaders relaxed economic controls, because of this people could own small businesses and sell products and services for profits. The standards of living rose, and China became a rising global power! Still, most Chinese wanted the freedom of speech, religion, and the press!!
