Fever 1793 Danielle Skaggs

Fever 1793 is about the yellow fever epidemic and a girl named Matilda who tried to survive it. My favorite scene is when Mattie’s Grandfather died. Mattie was really upset that Grandfather died of a robber killing him, so she stabbed a chair with his knife because of her stress and anger of his death. They had just returned to the coffeehouse from Bush Hill and now Grandfather died. Mattie was sleeping in the basement because it was cooler down there. The sound of two robbers coming through the window woke her up. While Mattie was fighting with them, Grandfather came downstairs and fought with them also. After he fought with them, he died. This scene is important because it shows that at this time, the poor people would do anything for supplies to help them survive and live through the epidemic.
