The Crucible Story Board The crucible takes place in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. The people of Salem's lives are ravished with religion and speculation. Rumors of witchcraft soon streamline throughout the town which leads to the following events that transpire. the story exemplifies the saying "innocent until proven guilty" or "guilt by association"
The Theocracy. Reverend parris is at home with his 10 year old daughter betty who has recently fall to some sort of illness which leads to speculation that she was a victim of witchcraft throughout the town of Salem. Another young girl Ruth is soon discovered with the same symptoms as betty.
10 year old Betty Parris lies in bed in a passionless haze
hysteria begins to brew in the small town about a group of girls with betty that were caught in the forest by reverend parris "participating in and practicing witchcraft"
"Now then, in the midst of such disruption, my own household is discovered to be the very center of some obscene practice"- Reverand Pariss
"we did dance, uncle, and when you leaped out of the bush so suddenly, betty was frightened and then she fainted. and theres the whole of it". - Abigail
Abigail is a young girl who lives in Salem and was also caught with Betty in the woods that day. She is now being confronted and questioned by Reverend Pariss over what transpired in the forest and to his daughter that day. Abigail tries to deny any allegation's of witchcraft and that Betty fainted from her and the girls being caught by her father. Reverend Pariss doesn't trust Abigail due to her reputation in Salem.
"Abigail, i cannot go before the congregation when i know you have not opened with me. what did you do with her in the forest." - Reverend Pariss
Betty surrounded by the girls wakes up screaming for her dead mother alerting everyone in town who rushes to her aid to find her back in the same state as before.
"ill fly to mama. let me fly" - Betty
John Proctor, the husband of Elizabeth is then introduced to the plays story line. Abigail and him still have chemistry and history even after Elizabeth fired Abigail and tarnished her name in Salem for messing with her husband.
"grasping his hand before he can release her: john-I am waiting for you every night." - Abigail
"Abby i may think of you softly from time to time. but i will cut off my hand before ire ill ever reach for you again" - John Proctor
