This question is so difficult! The most rewarding part about teaching middle schoolers is seeing them enter middle school unsure of who they are but leaving as a young adult that is much more confident.
Thanks for coming to the QA today Miss Smith! We can't wait to hear your thoughts on embracing individual identity in schools.
Miss Smith so far today you have stated that children need to feel supported no matter what and that students must be encouraged to share who they are always. Is there anything else you would like to add?
Let's start off with our first question, who are you and why is it important for your students to really now who you are?
Of course! I just started teaching and I want my seventh graders to know about me because we share a lot of commonalities! I love to spend time with my friends on weekends and my favorite person is totally my dog!
I want all of my students to feel 100% comfortable sharing who they are in my class and when I demonstrate; openness my goal is always to create an environment where they can be open too. Students must be encouraged to share who they are always!
More importantly to my identity my mom is a single mother and she works so hard so that I could be a successful 1st generation college student. I want my students to know my identity so they how much I intend to value their own indenties.
What is the most rewarding part of your career?
To me, being a teacher to me means to support your students through whatever life throws at them even if its not academic. Children need to feel supported no matter what.
Yes! I want to note that I cam to form these opinions after reading a comparison to teachers and heroes. It helped me see that heroes must reveal their true identity to build trust; the good and bad. The passage also helped me see heroes need support through the good and the bad. It's important to know our identity and value all pieces of it.
Thanks so much for all you shared with us today Miss Smith! Your hot takes certainly seem to hold great value!
